Successful Shiitake Log Inoculation

Home » Blog » Successful Shiitake Log Inoculation
Successful shiitake inoculation in a birch log, with mycelium showing right near the closest dowels.

Last year’s inoculation of birch logs with shiitake dowels shows successful colonisation of the wood. If all is well, the first mushrooms will appear this year.

It has been an unusually cool and wet early June, with wild mushrooms already appearing where they would normally not be expected yet. This bodes well for the production of mushrooms on these logs.

If we’re lucky, we will have fresh shiitake available for sale locally, and dried mushrooms for the larger market. Keep an eye on this place!
